Adventures in Burkeland - First Broken Bone
A little working family on a little hobby farm.

A month shy of twelve years since we became parents and it finally happened: one of the boys broke a bone.
Last night Nolan was running out to the trampoline with a friend and (his words) "forgot to stop" when he got there. He jammed the second toe on his left foot into the ladder and by the time I saw it there was blood coming out of the bottom of the toe-nail. Of course, for twelve years my "it will be better in the morning" theory has worked, so that was my response. Around 3am he woke me up in tears to say it was still throbbing and he hadn't been able to sleep at all. I gave him some Tylenol and crawled in bed to watch a movie while he kicked in. We talked a bit more and I promised we would go to Urgent Care as soon as it opened the next morning. He finally fell asleep and by the time he woke up in late Saturday morning we had confirmed that Urgent Care does not do x-rays and we would be better off going to the ER. So off we went!

A blurry x-ray confirmed it was "most-likely" broken (UPDATE: the radiologist did call later and confirm the break) and we were sent home with a classy "boot", some tape and instructions to wear the boot for two weeks, and keep it taped as long as it hurts.
Right. We'll see how long this really lasts.
