Our end-of-the-school-year trip to Long Beach became a tradition somewhere along the line that the boys seem to expect after school wraps up. Nolan specifically asked if we could be there for his birthday this year (we typically go the first week after school is out, which is the week before his birthday). The boys remember the various places around Long Beach anymore, and have specific things they look forward to. This summer it dawned on me that this will be the place they look back on and say "we went every summer when we were kids".
This year was a little crazy with some things Scott has going at work, but we made it happen!
I took the boys on Friday, Scott worked the weekend and joined us Monday. Poppy and Nonna arrived on Tuesday, for Nolan's birthday, and stayed the rest of the week, while Scott headed back home on Wednesday. The change in people actually broke down the trip into nice "chunks". We swam and watched too much TV during the first few days. Drove go-carts and played laser-tag when Daddy was with us, and then hit the beach and historic sites with Poppy and Nonna. (Nolan is becoming an expert on Lewis and Clark!) The boys were in heaven (which they define as cable and a pool - the rest is just icing) and are already talking about "next year".
